Androgenetic alopecia and baldness in men and women
Androgenetic alopecia is a common condition that affects both men and women. It's caused by an inherited sensitivity to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which causes hair follicles on your scalp to shrink and produce finer, shorter hairs. Women can also lose hair at the front of the scalp, but they tend to keep more hair in the back of the scalp than men do.
Be calm. Your hair loss doesn't mean you're going bald or that you need to shave your head. You can be treated for baldness and help re-grow your hair, no matter the type or thickness of your hair or how much you have lost.
The good news is that there are many effective treatments for androgenetic alopecia available today. The bad news is that these treatments aren't all created equal—not every option will work for everyone. That's why it's important to talk with your doctor about what treatment options are available, so you can choose one that will give you the best results for your body and lifestyle.
